This variable height glass railing project in Banner Elk, North Carolina, combines wind protection with spectacular uninterrupted views across the Blue Ridge Mountains.
This recently completed project is located at The Lodges at Eagles Nest in Banner Elk, North Carolina, where the home is nestled into the hillside across three levels with stunning panoramic views over the Blue Ridge Mountains.
US Glass Fence worked with the builder, Acony Bell, to provide a glass railing solution that would complement the architecture of the home while preserving those incredible views.
StopBreeze Variable Height Glass Railing
US Glass Fence installed StopBreeze variable height glass railing panels across the property's outdoor living areas.
The system allows the glass panels to be raised when additional protection from the wind is needed and lowered when conditions are calmer. This makes it particularly well suited to an exposed mountain location, where weather conditions can change quickly.
Rather than permanently blocking the view with a taller railing, StopBreeze provides additional protection when it is needed.
Starphire Low-Iron Glass
For maximum clarity, the system was glazed with Starphire® low-iron glass.
Starphire glass minimizes the green tint associated with conventional clear glass, helping the railing blend into its surroundings and maintaining the spectacular views across the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The posts were powder coated black, providing a clean architectural contrast against the exceptionally clear glass and complementing the design of the home.
Designed Around the View
The variable height glass railing in Banner Elk was designed specifically for this remarkable three-level hillside property.
The finished installation provides a solid glass railing together with the ability to increase the height when additional wind protection is required - without sacrificing the reason for being there in the first place: the view.
Working alongside Acony Bell, the finished system complements the architecture rather than competing with its spectacular mountain setting.
