Our frameless glass systems can be treated with DSS Reactive Sealer by Diamond Seal Systems, a cutting-edge nano-coating that creates a self-cleaning, hydrophilic surface for both residential and commercial applications.
How It Works
DSS Reactive Sealer forms a permanent covalent bond with the silica in the glass. Unlike temporary polymer coatings, this treatment becomes part of the glass surface itself — not just a layer on top. Once cured, the surface becomes ultra-smooth at the microscopic level, reducing the ability of dirt, water, and organic materials to adhere.
As the coating is exposed to sunlight, UV rays activate a photocatalytic reaction that breaks down hydrocarbons, airborne pollutants, and other organic residues. These contaminants are decomposed into harmless byproducts like carbon dioxide and water vapor, which are then rinsed away by rain or condensation.
Simultaneously, the hydrophilic nature of the coating causes water to sheet across the glass instead of beading — helping lift and carry away dust and debris without spotting or streaking
THE COATING PROCESS
The DSS coating can be applied in our workshop or on-site, depending on the project. It’s ideal for new installations or retrofitting existing glass.
Step 1: Surface Preparation
Glass is cleaned with either a 30% acetic acid solution or a 1:1 mix of distilled water and denatured alcohol. This removes all residues and exposes the silica layer for optimal bonding.
Step 2: Application
The coating is applied using a microfiber pad or lint-free cloth, ensuring even coverage. It cures at room temperature and forms a covalent bond with the glass.
Step 3: Activation
The coating’s hydrophilic properties begin working immediately. The photocatalytic self-cleaning effect typically takes a few days to fully activate, depending on UV exposure.
