Over the last ten years, we've had the pleasure of working with some amazing builders, designers, and subcontractors. Most projects have been smooth sailing… but this one? More like trying to navigate a storm without a compass.
In Stamford, CT, we were contracted by US Home Services to install concealed glass stair railings with a stained oak handrail. Sounds perfect, right? But then the “details” went awry.
The Naugatuck based stair fabricator was supposed to drill holes in each step for our stand-off posts. Spoiler alert: the holes never made it. So, our team stepped in (pun intended) and drilled them ourselves—adding a few hours we didn’t plan for.
To make things even more interesting, the handrails were prefinished instead of being sanded, stained, and finished on-site, as we’d requested. Picture trying to squeeze a pre-wrapped gift into a box that’s just too small. Yeah, that’s the vibe.
In the end, we’re sure the homeowners are happy with the result. As for us, we gained some extra “hands-on experience” and a lighter wallet. But hey, at least we can laugh about it now.
