We have just finished installing a glass stair rail in a very contemporary house in Larchmont, NY. The project consisted of tempting and installing 9 glass panels on four sets of steps and the landing.
Measuring for the project was a challenge and so we ended up making a series of templates out of Masonite. This enabled us to calculate the angles, height, gaps and panel sizes. The glass panels were attached to the side of the stars using Q-Railing offset posts, through bolted to the LVL sides of the stairs. Small holes were cut in the ceiling sheetrock to give access to the back of the fastener. Half inch tempered glass was sued with rounded corners and polished edges.
Once all of the main panels were in place we then measured for the small end filler panels.
The result is a stunning, minimalist, contemporary stair rail that conforms to the NY Building Code and looks great.
